Hi Elizabeth - As a subscriber to Writer's Digest's e-newsletter I've just read your piece on "handselling your book" and it made me laugh - mainly because I am that hopeless-sales-person that you obviously understand very well! I've had a mystery published and am currently writing another. it doesn't get any easier does it?? Or perhaps it does for you! Anyway, I shall take all your suggestions on board when/if this one gets published and I find myself with a pile of my books to sell! I've reserved a copy of Damn Straight (the only one of yours they have!) from my local library so I look forward to reading it. Do you get a 'lending fee' over there for a library copy borrowed in the States as we do here in the UK? It's called the Public Lending Rights scheme. Welcome (if small) payment comes in once a year. very handy!

Kind regards, all the best.

Elizabeth replies   Wendy, congratulations on your books, and thanks for stopping by. Glad you like the article! And gosh, I've never heard of the UK's lending fee. We have no such thing in this country, but I wish we did. Best back to you.

Just discovered your sly humor with a special copy of The Actress. I'm sure I'll be going back to read all your other books. And was excited to see that we share a year of birth (19coughcough) and that you are a Michigan native.
Thank you for this most excellent quote and concept: ". a girl so frankly herself and so uninterested in pleasing others she seemed almost menopausal". I have to love it.

Elizabeth replies   Katherine, thank you! It's always special for an author when a reader gets the subtleties. I hope to do an event at the Borders @ 13 and Southfield when my next book comes out.

I am thrilled to know that you will be visiting tomorrow evening, to our FWA, Sarasota chapter meeting. I wouldn't miss the opportunity to learn and ask questions. You have found another reader. Thank you. Peter Ffrickel.

Looking forward to meeting you at our next FWA meeting here in Sarasota. Thanks for looking us up, and thanks for sharing your new teaching techniques with us. As Susan Haley probably told you, the size of our group varies from meeting to meeting and season to season but our core members have coupled talent with a desire to learn. See you next week!

Elizabeth replies   Terrific, Russ, thanks for getting in touch. Looking forward to meeting you and the group. We'll have some fun!
